Annual Golden Fair
The 104th Golden Fair will take place in Mears Friday, Oct. 5. The Golden Fair parade will proceed through downtown at 1 p.m. and will feature a “Golden Fair Days” theme.
Prior to the parade, lunch will be served at the Methodist Church in Mears from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Old Town Hall Museum will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the Mears Golden Fair. A bake sale, including a number of craft and white elephant items, will take place at the church.
This year the large hall in the front of the building is filled with gifts given to the Oceana County Historical and Genealogical Society during the past 50 years. The OCHGS is celebrating its 50 year anniversary this year and has received more than 35,200 gifts from l,396 different donors over the years.
The Old Town Hall “School Room” features history of all past and present county schools as well as several desks from different schools, a wooden book case from the first high school in Shelby and an old iron heating stove.
The office area of the Old Town Hall has a large display from the historical society’s military collection which includes donated military items from many different periods.
Cider and doughnut holes will also be available at the Old Town Hall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
