This event allows an amateur to compete in an exciting, competitive environment with a chance to win trophies, money and best of all, the "King of the Dunes" bragging rights for one year.

Competition Prizes awarded are as follows:

Grand Champion -- $100. + "King of the Dunes" Trophy
- 1st Place Ribs -- $50 + Trophy
- 2nd Place Ribs -- $25 + Trophy
- 1st Place Chicken Wings -- $50 + Trophy
- 2nd Place Chicken Wings -- $25 + Trophy
Cash prizes paid to second and third place in each category
General KCBS Rules for this competition include:
- Raw Meat Inspection -- Start at check-in with cold, untreated, raw meat. Pre-cooking, soaking, marinating, brining etc. prior to check in will not be allowed. After meat inspection, par-boil them, crock pot them, however you wish, as long as at least part of the cooking includes the use of the grill.
- Allowed Garnishes: Chopped, sliced, shredded or whole leaves of fresh green lettuce, parsley, or cilantro. NO kale, endive, red tipped lettuce, lettuce core or other vegetation.
Competition Judges Include:
- KCBS judges, local and celebrity judges.
