Outdoor Recreational Vehicle (ORV)
Over 1 million visitors flock to Silver Lake Sand Dunes each year for the thrill and excitement of testing their Dune mountain driving skills or to ride along with one of the tours. The spectacular Silver Lake Sand Dunes are the only Dunes east of the Mississippi River where you can ride a sand Dune, and they are open from April 1 to October 31. It’s an experience you shouldn’t miss and one the whole family will enjoy.
Ride your own ORV, rent one from the many area businesses that lease ORVs, or tour the dunes with a tour company. If you bring your own ORV or rent one, be sure to carefully read the Dune Info and Safety Rules. If you don’t meet the restrictions, you won’t be allowed on the dunes. The ORV self-driven area is at the north of the Dunes and can be accessed at 8690 West Fox Road in Silver Lake. It’s operated by Michigan DNR through Silver Lake State Park. Visitors must pay a Silver Lake State Park entrance fee to access the dunes. See our Dune Info and Safety page for more information on fees and State Park ORV rules or call the Silver Lake State Park at 231.873.3083 or click here.
